The Church in the Sea

Description

Of the many strange sights we passed in our walk along the sunken streets of Atlantis, perhaps the strangest was the church.

It was a dark, hollowed out husk of a building, like all the rest, and yet unmistakably designed in the familiar shape of nave and transept. Stepping inside, we shined our lanterns down row after row of rotting pews and aisles with dark alcoves. Approaching the sanctuary, we saw the altar occluded by coral, now a converted habitat for all manner of life--small fish that that sparked and disappeared like aquatic fireflies, crabs that snatched their stalk-eyes back into their shells, eels that darted away like streamers into the watery night.

And there on the altar was a cross, perhaps two feet in height, as barnacled as the rest, the tentacles of anenome extending from its surfaces and reaching instinctively in our direction.

"It's lovely to see life thriving on such an ancient symbol of death," muttered my colleague through the speakers in our helmets.

"Well yes," I said, "There is that ..."

"What's wrong?"

I blinked. "Well, Atlantis was believed to date back to 9600 BC. All of our findings so far seem to confirm this theory ... That's -BC-. Atlantis sunk into the sea 9 thousand years -before Christ-. So what is a Christian church doing -here-? Either the Atlanteans dreamt of Christ nine thousand years before he was born and crucified ... or the Atlanteans built this church nine thousand years -after- their city sunk."

This hand-crafted pendant is FOR SALE. Black wire twists thorn-like around sea-glass to form the shape of a cross. Perhaps the sort of pendant the mysterious Christian Atlanteans would wear. Pendant measures 2.5 inches in length and comes with a complementary ribbon; please note ribbon colours may vary based on availability.
